Bernadine Caroline Miller

Bernadine Caroline 'Bunnie' Miller, 99, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2021, at her home in Toledo, Wa., with her daughter by her side. She was born September 3, 1921, in Palmer, Minnesota, to Vincent F. and Mary Sabina (Neuman) Kampa.
Bernadine married Robert F. Miller in Crockett, Ca. September 20, 1941. She and Robert moved to Washington State soon after, spending almost 20 years in Longview, before settling in Toledo in 1960.

Bernadine worked as a cook for St Mary's Academy and the Toledo School District for many years. She baked the best cinnamon rolls and buns, and earned the nickname 'Auntie Bun.' She belonged to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Toledo ; her memberships included the Legion of Mary, Altar Society, Eagles, Moose, Toledo Lioness, Cowllitz Prairie Grange, and was a lifetime member of the VFW. She also was a member of the infamous "Beach Bums" the group enjoyed their time at the beach together .

Bernadine loved to dance, her family always said that she'd probably danced with every man in Minnesota! When Cowlitz Prairie Grange had dances, she was there with her dancing shoes on, and was famous for her potato salad there. In 2005 She was a Big Cheese, for the city's local celebration. Bernadine loved everyone at the Toledo Senior Center, and enjoyed playing bingo at the center..

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert, in 2002; a young son, Donald Miller; her parents; and siblings, Harvey, Ellen, Marie, and Evelyn.

Bernadine is survived by her daughter, Carol (Bob) Turner, Toledo, sons: John (Lynette) Miller, Toledo, Richard (Darlene) Miller, Silverlake, Wa . Ronald Miller, Kelso, Wa. and Joe (Sue) Miller, Napavine, Wa. 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 4 great- great grandchildren; sisters: Laura Moothart of Independence, Or., and Katherine Hemmelgarn of Clear Lake, Mn., brother, Leland Kampa of Sauk Rapids, Mn. and many, many nieces and nephews.
