David Michael Gier, 48, of Centralia, Washington, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, December 17, 2020, following a brief battle with COVID-19. David was born December 28, 1971, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Michael Patrick and Donna Lynn (Loomis) Gier. David’s life was full of adventure- his dad’s military service meant many moves- to San Diego, California; Nevada; Connecticut; and of course, Washington.
David was a kind and loving young man who loved his family and loved all of God’s creatures, especially his ‘daughter,’ Goldie, a Yellow Lab. Growing up, he was close to his grandma in Connecticut, and had fond memories of playing ‘Slap Jack’ and their own special version of ‘Old Maid,’ as well as watching The Price is Right with her. David graduated with Bremerton’s Olympic High School’s class of 1993. While at Olympic, David earned his Letterman’s jacket, and was an athlete with Special Olympics. He was also manager of the Varsity Basketball Team and was invited to many parties as a result. He worked several jobs as part of his program of study, his favorite was at the Kitsap Humane Society following graduation. ‘Mr. G,’ his teacher, job coach, and Special Olympics instructor, made a huge impact on him during that time and afterward.
David loved shopping, TV shows, and movies. He owned hundreds of movies, and loved sharing storylines with family and friends. He was quite the gardener, too- producing radishes, strawberries, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, and all colors of bell peppers.
David was preceded in death by Goldie, in 2019; and both sets of grandparents.
He is lovingly remembered by his parents, Mike and Donna; his sister, Heather Shulman; niece, Mirannda; and nephews, Riley and Tristan.
Due to current government restrictions, no services will be held at this time. David’s family kindly asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Special Olympics, the Kitsap Humane Society, or the Epilepsy Foundation.
