It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Hayden “Tom” Malone, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who left us on December 24, 2024, at the age of 92 at his home in Toledo, WA. Tom was quite the warrior battling cancer and other illnesses and spent the last week at home lovingly surrounded by family.
Born on May 14, 1932, in Ellensburg, WA Tom grew up in Longview, WA to Arthur Dale Malone and Dorothy Thomas Malone. He had 3 brothers: Richard, Larry and Art. He proudly joined and served with the Marines from 1951 through 1954. Just prior to going to boot camp at Camp Pendleton (San Diego) and serving in Korea, he proposed to the love of his life – Joanne Hazen and they would later marry in April 1954. They were married for 70 beautiful years!
He spent much of his life in California where he worked as an aerospace engineer. He was intelligent and dedicated. He was well known for his creativeness, kindness, and sense of humor. When they retired and relocated back to Washington in 1990, they thoroughly enjoyed their time outdoors and he enjoyed building things in his shop, and spending quality time outside. He was quite the craftsman.
Tom had a very strong and unwavering support to his family and friends as well as a deep love for his wife and his children. He is survived by his wife Joanne; daughter Diane/husband Dave Perron; son Dave/wife Susan; son Jeff/wife Debbie; Daughter IL Candy; Grandchildren: Tom/Kate, Rob/Maygan, Kim/Jon, Brian/Myndee, Michelle/Jimbo and Danny/Dee, Katie/Daniel, Laura/Keith and several wonderful great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his oldest son Steve, and first-born grandson Mathew, granddaughter, his parents and brothers Richard and Art.
A funeral service to honor his life will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church located at 139 Spencer Road in Toledo, WA on January 10, 2025 at 11:00 am. Burial service immediately after church service. Reception to follow in the hall.
Though his physical presence will be deeply missed, his spirit, wisdom and love will continue to be with us and guide us.
