Karen Ann Jacques

December 31, 1949 — April 28, 2021

Just days before passing away, Karen Ann Jacques, 71, said one of her greatest strengths was her ability to make friends. And indeed, she has left behind many who treasured her. As a resident of Canterbury Inn in Longview, WA for more than a decade, she had a large circle of friends among the residents and staff there. Family was also important to Karen and she was dearly loved by those she has left behind.
Karen was born on New Year’s Eve in Salt Lake City, Utah to Clinton and Hazel (Widdison) Morgan. Her father was in the Army and Karen, along with her parents and two older sisters moved several times while she was young. The family lived on Army bases in Fort Lewis, WA, Japan, and California where her dad retired. Karen started school in San Jose, CA and lived there until she graduated. She attended Brigham Young University where she earned a bachelor’s degree. Her first job after graduating was as a teacher in a one room school building on the shores of Lake Powell in Bullfrog Basin, Utah.
After a year of teaching, Karen moved back to California where she made new friends and married for a short time.
She moved to Illinois in 2005 and to Kenosha, Wisconsin a couple years later. Her professional career had her employed at Abbott Laboratories during that time. Several years later, she moved to Kelso, WA to be near family, eventually settling into Canterbury Inn Assisted Living in Longview, WA.
Karen loved crafts, making jewelry which she gifted to those she loved and sold at Canterbury’s annual Christmas bazaar. She also enjoyed diamond painting, coloring, and reading – James Patterson was a favorite author.
Karen was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She passed away at Auburn Acute Care Facility in Auburn, WA on April 28, 2021.
She leaves behind her sister Maxine (Doug) Robinson of Kelso, Washington, as well as five nieces and five nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Linda Drummond, and her niece Tina.
A celebration of life will be held the last week of May at Canterbury Inn. Internment will be at Green Hills Memorial Gardens in Kelso.
