Larry John Nelson

Larry John Nelson, 77, passed away due to complications with cancer on September 26, 2024 at his home in Winlock, Washington where his wife, Edwina Nelson, had been his full time caregiver. 

Larry was born in Williston, North Dakota on October 23, 1946 to Lawrence John Steiner and Ruby Wagner and he was then adopted as a teenager by Robert Nelson. Larry had three brothers Craig, Miles and Warren.

Larry retired from the United States Navy with 22 years of active service in 1986. Larry and his family moved to Winlock in 1986 and had been an active member of the community since then. 

He worked for Toledo School district as a handyman and he also volunteered at St. Paul Lutheran Church, doing many projects. He would help anyone with anything that they needed done. 

He is preceded in death by his parents Lawrence, Ruby and Robert, Edwina and Larry’s son, RL Michael Nelson, and his brothers Craig and Miles. 

He is survived by the love of his life of 56 years, Edwina Nelson, his brother Warren, and Larry and Edwina’s niece Karen (Dennis) Moore whom they raised. He is also survived by his grandchildren Rayne Alexander and Collyn Andrew. He was also the proud GP to Easton James and Vivian Alice. 

Larry and Edwina loved to travel, and they believed in doing things today because tomorrow wasn’t promised. Larry will be greatly missed and always loved very much. 

There will be a Viewing on Monday, October 7, 2024 at Fir Lawn Funeral Chapel from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, October 8, 2024 is a Viewing from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. with the Funeral Service starting at 10:30 a.m. located at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church located at 379 WA-505, Winlock, Washington. Graveside will be at Lone Hill Cemetery located at 129 Farrel Road, Toledo, Washington right after the funeral service with the Social Gathering immediately after that located at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winlock.
