Nola Ann Thomas, 85, of Rochester, Wash., passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at Providence St Peter Hospital in Olympia. Nola was born February 4, 1937, in Iroquois, West Va., to Clarence and Elizabeth (Hilton) Haga.
Dewiel Edward Thomas, 83, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2011, at his home in Rochester, Wash. Dewiel was born March 24, 1928, in Bud, West Virg., to Fred and Ida (Howerton) Thomas.
Nola and her sweetheart, Dewiel, were married in 1953, and moved to Toledo, Wash., in 1963. They were blessed with five children. In 1992, they moved to Rochester, where they lived out the rest of their lives.
Nola kept a beautiful home and enjoyed being able to stay home and manage the household. She loved traveling, sewing, bowling, working in the yard, and spending time with her family.
Dewiel served our country in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a mechanic and welder by trade, working for Weyerhauser after moving to Washington until his retirement in 1989. He was a devoted father that enjoyed working, hunting, fishing, doing projects around the house, and traveling. He also enjoyed a big juicy ham!
The two owned a 20 acre farm up on Smokey Valley Rd, which kept them very busy. The kids recall raising over a hundred white leghorn chickens, raising pigs, guinea hens, and at one point they raised a LOT of ringneck pheasants to release for hunting season. Gardening and canning were big at the Thomas place. In short, they lived a wonderful country life!
They were preceded in death by their son, Brian, in 1972.
Nola and Dewiel are survived by her daughters, Barbara Mosteller of Toledo, and Miranda Daarud, also of Toledo; sons, Clarence Thomas of Ridgefield, Wash., and David Thomas of Rochester; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great- grandchildren.
